Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the first appointment two hours long?
The assessment interview usually takes 15-30 minutes; I will provide up to 90 minutes of treatment depending on the client's needs. We will close the appointment, time permitting, with a consultation during which I may suggest some self care and treatment techniques. Though it may seem like a long time, it is rarely enough to accomplish all our goals.
what should i wear for my appointment?
There is no need to shower or 'dress up' specifically for your massage; in most cases, it best to wear clothes that you can easily get out of. There are fresh robes and a coat tree in the rest room, and I can provide hangars, if needed. For your session, your level of undress is determined by your comfort. Some clients prefer to remain fully clothed; however, as this prohibits the use of lubricants and certain massage techniques, treatment is most effective when the areas we intend to work in can be exposed. Most clients dress down to their bottom undergarments; your modesty is protected at all times by a sheet and blanket.
Should I arrive Early for my appointment?
It is not necessary to arrive more than five minutes before your appointment start time; due to scheduling limitations, I am unable to start sessions before the scheduled time.
Where should I park?
After turning into the driveway, park on the left side in the area designated by the "CLIENT PARKING" sign. Approach the front door, knock, and enter.
is your facility accessible to those who are differently abled?
Though the doorways are wide enough for a wheelchair or scooter, there is a single tall step up to the front door. I am available to assist any client, and we have managed to hoist a wheelchair with teamwork, but even some ambulatory clients have had difficulty with the step. Please ask for assistance any time you need it.
do you accept insurance?
Many insurance companies do not provide compensation for massage therapy treatment; as such, it is not feasible for me to coordinate directly with insurance providers. With a medical doctor's script and a receipt, which I can provide, some people can be reimbursed from Flexible Spending Accounts and similar programs.
how do i pay for my appointment?
Payment is due at the time of treatment. Cash or check is preferred, but I can accept card payments with a 5% service charge. Tips are not required or expected
why is your fee greater than that of some other therapists?
The treatment I provide is specialized, and it more effectively delivers positive results when compared to some other massage modalities; as such, my treatments are a better value, and in greater demand.
why do i feel sore after a deep tissue massage?
The muscles and connective tissues treated during a deep tissue session often have not been exercised adequately; they may be injured, compressed, or stuck to adjacent tissues. After they are stretched and moved during treatment, these tissues may be sore, as if from exertion. As most of us have experienced after a steep hike, a long bike ride, a good workout, or a tough day of work, the soreness from this exertion may not be felt the next day as much as it can be felt the following morning upon waking. This discomfort is rarely debilitating and tends to dissipate quickly once you get up and start moving around; it might even feel like a 'good soreness'. Many people experience no soreness at all following treatment.
how many sessions will i need before i start to feel better?
Massage is a cumulative therapy, much like chiropractic care. Most clients notice a significant improvement in their conditions after four to six treatments of appropriate frequency and duration, but results vary greatly depending on each person's complaints, the severity of their injuries, overall physical health, and unique musculoskeletal physiology.
what is your cancellation policy?
Please provide 24 hours notice for all appointment changes or cancellations. I can be notified by voice message, text message, Facebook Messenger, or email. The second time you do not provide adequate notice for a missed appointment, you are responsible for half of the session fee. After and including the third occurrence, you are responsible for full payment before scheduling another appointment.
when are you available for appointments?
I am generally available for my clients from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and the first Saturday of each month. I do not keep regular office hours and I work out of my home, so please call ahead to arrange pick up of a gift certificate, to view my facilities, or just to meet in person.
do you accept same-day or walk-in appointments?
As I am the sole practicing therapist, I am unable to accommodate same-day or walk-in appointments. Please call ahead with as much advance notice as possible to schedule your appointment, as my schedule is typically booked weeks in advance.
do you offer massage for couples?
As I am the sole practitioner, I cannot provide simultaneous treatment for multiple people. Couples interested in booking adjacent or shared appointments can be reasonably accommodated; please call to make specific arrangements.
What do you do with the personal information you collect?
